===== Things That I Would Like ===== Last updated 2010-04-14 (since 2009-10-20, I've added two books). Generally the most wanted things are first in each section. Not all suitable for gifts; for my own use too. BOOKS ===== (Second-hand is good.) Leo Marks - "Between Silk and Cyanide - A Codemaker's War". J E Gordon - "The New Science of Strong Materials". Old Ideas for Books ------------------- "The Moon Riders" or "Wolf Girl" by Theresa Tomlinson. Wm Cobbett - maybe "Cottage Economy" or "Rural Rides" or books on trees, etc. (Maybe. Borrow from library?) Douglas Coupland novels (read and liked "Girlfriend in a Coma" and "Microserfs"). Also, might like these other similar books: "Going Out" by Scarlett Thomas "Hard, Soft and Wet" by Melanie McGrath Music Books ----------- (Piano or Piano/Vocal/Guitar editions) Nancy Griffith piano arrangements. I have "Late Night Grande Hotel and Other Classics", which is good, and I believe there is only one other book published, "Flyer". "Flyer" is an album I have on CD but hardly know at all, so don't think I'd appreciate the piano book much. I think the only real way forward is for me to work out my own arrangements to my favourite songs (especially from the album "Little Love Affairs"), or for someone to do that for me. RECORDED MUSIC ============== (On CD if possible.) Chris Wood, Roger Wilson and Martin Carthy - "Wood - Wilson - Carthy". Might Like, or Hard to Find, or Just Know One Song ================================================== Roy Bailey - album "Coda" for nice version of "Bee's wing"? The 3 Ginx With Hillbilly Accompaniment - song "At The End Of The Caribou Trail (Mush Along You Huskies)" (record label "Rex") (previously sung by "Rocky Mountaineers & Bunk House Boys"). Hard to find. Dr. Faustus - song "The Lincolnshire Poacher" on album "The First Cut". May like the rest of the album. Tanita Tikaram - might like "Everybody's Angel", or any album except the three I've got (which are "Ancient Heart", "The Sweet Keeper" and "Lovers in the City"). Not sure about her latest, "Sentimental", which is said to be good but jazzy. Mary Black - any album, pref. with "Bright Blue Rose" on it -> "Babes in the Wood" - borrow from Peter? Huw and Tony Williams - any album, pref. with "Making Choices" on it. Ewan MacColl - The Radio Ballads. Broadcast in the 1960s; now on 8 CDs from Topic Records. Have numbers 8 (Travelling People) and 1 (railwaymen); would probably like 3 (herring fishing) next. Search for "Radio-Ballads". Not the 2006 Radio Ballads - I heard those. FILMS TO SEE ============ DVD of the Sea Stallion of Glendalough, available from under "Miscellaneous - Audio". THINGS ====== Parts or a kit to make an old instrument. I need to finish my lyres. I also fancy making a hammered dulcimer or a harp. There are harp kits from the Early Music Shop - very expensive (hundreds of pounds) and I don't really know whether/which/what I want. Their plain-looking "Ardival Rosemarkie" model is the only one suitable for Saxon reenactment.
